Chavez was born and raised in Albuquerque and her family’s history in New Mexico stretches back hundreds of years. She is the mother of two school-aged children and has helped run her husband’s accounting firm for years as the bookkeeper. “Like many New Mexicans, we’ve worked hard for what we have. We know what it’s like to struggle and overcome obstacles. Because of this, we also know what it means to lend a helping hand in a time of need,” Chavez said. “This is why I’m running to represent the North Valley in Santa Fe. Small businesses aren’t treated fairly, our children and teachers deserve a better education system, and too many people are having to leave New Mexico to find better opportunities for themselves and their families. We can do better.” Senate District 13 stretches along the North Valley corridor, including the Alameda, Los Griegos, Edith and Candelaria neighborhoods and a small neighborhood on the westside of the Rio Grande. Michaela Chavez on the Issues Chavez’s campaign will focus on three issues important to voters in the North Valley. · Improving education outcomes: “Every child in New Mexico deserves a first-rate education, but our state government has failed them. As state senator, I will make sure that more money is spent in the classroom on student learning rather than on bloated administrative salaries.” · Supporting small businesses: “As bookkeeper for a family accounting firm, I’ve seen how the governor’s excessive lockdown order has favored big corporations at the expense of mom and pop shops around the state. These small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and our communities. We need to reverse the damage and help them thrive.” · Reducing crime: “Too many people in our community have suffered because of crime. We need to fix the catch-and-release rules to ensure our justice system protects our communities and respects victims of crime.” In addition to her experience in the accounting firm, raising her family, Chavez has spent most of her life helping others. She has worked to secure shelter for homeless women and their children and in foster care facilities to help abused and neglected children get the services they desperately needed. Chavez looks forward to continuing her history of service representing District 13 in the New Mexico State Senate. ### Comments are closed.
